About Custom Maps
Hello, I'm Alec, the face behind Custom Maps.
For years I wanted a giant wall map for my home in Queenstown. Not a tourist poster, but a topographic map, large enough to trace old trips and plan new ones. I couldn't find one anywhere, so I made my own.
I started making these for other people in 2024. Custom Maps now covers the whole country in topo, aerial and custom maps, plus map wallpaper. Every design still starts with me, here in Queenstown.
I've over 75 ready-made designs to choose from, but I love creating custom maps too. My favourite jobs are maps of somewhere specific: your farm, your bach, a route you walked.

Questions people often ask
How long will my map take to arrive?
We aim to print and dispatch orders within five working days (and we usually beat this target). Framed canvases and framed prints are made to order, so allow a little longer for these, up to two weeks. Check the Delivery page for current timeframes on every option.
How much is shipping?
$20 to the South Island and $25 to the North Island, and free on orders over $250. Everything is sent in reinforced packaging by a tracked NZ Post service.
Can I get my map framed?
Yes. We've several options, from clip-on magnetic hangers to full wooden frames that arrive ready to hang. See the Framing page for details.
Can you make a map of somewhere specific?
Yes, that's my favourite kind of job. Build your own topo or aerial map, or get in touch for a farm, property or route and I'll tell you what's possible.
Can I send a map as a gift?
Absolutely. Just enter their address at checkout and it'll go straight to them. Maps make a great gift for birthdays, weddings and anyone who loves the outdoors.
