Wall Maps for New Zealand Schools

Large-format topographic and aerial wall maps for classrooms, libraries and outdoor education rooms. Built and printed in Queenstown, shipped nationwide.

A big map on the wall is one of the few classroom resources that gets used every day. It is always on, it never needs a login, and thirty students can read it at once.

What schools usually choose

One

The national view

A giant North Island or South Island map for the classroom, library, hall or corridor. Main ranges, rivers, national parks and every town of any size.

Two

The regional view

The area your students can reach on a camp or field trip. Ruapehu and Tongariro, Aoraki Mount Cook, Fiordland and dozens more. Usually the map that gets the most classroom use.

Three

Your local area

A custom topographic map centred exactly on your school. You choose the centre and zoom, we send a proof, and you get a unique map that no other school has.

How maps get used in class

  • Geography and science - landforms, settlement patterns, land use, natural hazards, catchments, erosion, glaciation, volcanic landforms and coastal processes.
  • Outdoor education and camps - plan the tramp, mark the route, work out day distances, brief the class, then debrief on the same map afterwards.
  • Orienteering and navigation - perfect for teaching bearings, grid references and route choices.
  • Mathematics - scales, ratios, distances, gradients and areas.

Choosing a size

A0 - recommended for classrooms

84.1cm x 118.9cm

Readable from across the room and big enough for a group to crowd around.

A1

59.4cm x 84.1cm

Smaller classrooms, breakout rooms, offices and staffrooms.

A2

42.0cm x 59.4cm

Useful when you want a set of several regions rather than one large map.

All prints are on heavy, waterproof, tear-resistant stock that stands up to classroom life better than standard poster paper. Laminating is worth doing where a map will be handled a lot, and it lets students draw routes on with whiteboard markers and wipe them off. For a permanent display in a library or entranceway, our framed premium canvas keeps it looking sharp for years.

Want to go bigger? Custom map wallpaper covers an entire wall, up to 9m x 5m. Consider it for entrance halls, library walls, hall ends and corridor features.

How to order

  1. Tell us what you need. Contact us via the contact form with your school name, the areas you want covered and how many maps. Not sure what suits the space? Describe the room and we will suggest something.
  2. We provide a written quote. If you need an itemised and GST-inclusive invoice, ready for approval, just let us know.
  3. You approve the proof. For custom designs we build the map around your location and send a series of previews before anything is printed. We keep editing until it is right.
  4. We invoice and deliver. We can invoice the school against a purchase order rather than requiring payment at checkout. Prints ship nationwide, with free delivery on orders over $250.

Indicative pricing: standard maps from $155. Custom maps built around your chosen location from $345. Ask us for a quote before ordering multiple maps.

Questions schools ask

Can you make a map centred exactly on our school?

Yes. Use the custom map builder to set your centre point and zoom, or just email us the address and we will set it up for you. Either way you approve a proof before printing.

Can you add our school name, house names or a camp route?

Yes. We can add titles, labels and route lines. Send us what you need and we will let you know what we can do.

Which size works best in a classroom?

A0. It reads clearly from across the room and holds up when a group crowds around it.

Is there a discount for multiple maps?

Yes. Get in touch with your list before ordering and we will quote you. The more maps in the order, the better the pricing.

How long does delivery take?

Standard maps usually ship within a few working days. Custom maps take longer because they go through a proof and approval step first. If you have a term deadline, tell us and we will work to it.
